By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Post-Season Tournament starts this week and the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes are the no.5 seed.

Wesleyan will travel to Hillsboro on Wednesday to take on fourth seeded Tabor at 7 p.m., inside the Tabor College Gym. KWU defeated the Bluejays 54-41 in Saturday night’s regular season finale.

The Coyotes finished the KCAC regular season at 9-9, earning the fifth seed in the tournament.

Regular season champion Sterling is the top seed in the tournament. Southwestern is the second seed, McPherson is third, and Tabor is the fourth seed.

The winner of the tournament receives the first automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament at the Gateway Arena’s Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, which begins March 12.

The KCAC receives two bids to the national tournament. The second berth goes to the highest remaining seed regardless of finish in the KCAC tournament.

The KCAC tournament kicks off on Monday with a pair of “play-in” games. Seventh seeded Bethel hosts tenth seeded Bethany at Thresher Gym, and eighth seeded Ottawa hosts ninth seeded Saint Mary at Wilson Fieldhouse. Both games begin at 7 p.m.

First round games are scheduled for Wednesday. Top seed Sterling will host the winner of the Saint Mary at Ottawa play-in at the Gleason Center in Sterling. Southwestern will host the winner of the Bethany at Bethel play-in at Stewart Fieldhouse in Winfield. Tabor hosts KWU at the Tabor Gym in Hillsboro and McPherson hosts Friends at the Sport Center in McPherson. All games begin at 7 p.m.

Semifinal action takes place on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., at the home site of the higher seeded teams. The Sterling vs. Saint Mary/Ottawa winner will take on the winner of the KWU vs Tabor winner and the Southwestern vs. Bethel/Bethany winner will take on the winner of McPherson vs. Friends.

The KCAC will crown its 2008 Women’s Tournament Champion on Monday night, March 3, at 7 p.m., at the home site of the higher seeded team.
