Chemistry Major Core Requirements - 34 Credit Hours

The student must complete all of the following chemistry courses:

CHEM 123 General Chemistry I -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM 124 General Chemistry II -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM 221 Quantitative Analysis -- 5 Credit Hours
CHEM 223 Organic Chemistry I -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM 224 Organic Chemistry II -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM 225 Organic Laboratory Techniques -- 2 Credit Hours
CHEM 226 Organic Synthesis & Spectroscopy -- 2 Credit Hours
CHEM 311 Laboratory Safety & Maintenance -- 2 Credit Hours
CHEM 427 Physical Chemistry I -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM Chemistry Elective (300 level or above) -- 3 Credit Hours


Chemistry Teacher Education Certification Requirements - 44-50 Credit Hours

Students must complete the Liberal Studies requirements for Teacher Education Students, the Secondary Education Minor requirements, the General Science Teacher Education Certification requirements, and the following additional courses:

Chemistry Minor Requirements - 16 Credit Hours

Requirements should be established by agreement among the student, the student’s advisor, and the chemistry faculty. The following courses outline the typical requirements for a Chemistry minor:

CHEM 123 General Chemistry I -- 4 Credit Hours
CHEM 124 General Chemistry II -- 4 Credit Hours
Chemistry Electives (Excluding CHEM 120) -- 8 Credit Hours


Science & Technology Minor - 18-19 Credit Hours

Students will take one course from each of the three subject areas in science:

Life Sciences:
BIOL 110 General Biology -- 4 Credit Hours or
BIOL102 Environmental Awarenss -- 3 Credit Hours


Physical Sciences:
CHEM120 Introductory Chemistry -- 4 Credit Hours or
CHEM 123 General Chemistry I -- 4 Credit Hours or
PHYS118 Introduction to Physical Science -- 4 Credit Hours or
PHYS 221 General Physics & Lab -- 5 Credit Hours

Earth and Space Science:
NSCM145 General Geology -- 4 Credit Hours or
PHYS118 Earth-Space Science -- 4 Credit Hours or
NSCM133 Descriptive Astronomy -- 4 Credit Hours

Students will choose (6) six hours from Statistics, the Computer Studies Department or from a related technology-rich application. Only four hours of application courses will count towards the minor. The requirements may be met from any of the following:

- A Statistics Course
- Any courses from the Computer Studies Dept.
- Technology-related courses (with approval from the Computer Studies Dept.)
