Campus Ministry

Kansas Wesleyan University is committed to the faithful task of being a Christian university by elevating and celebrating what we know as religious life or faith. KWU and the Dean of the Chapel provide weekly chapel service, fellowship, small groups, service opportunities, personal growth counseling, prayer support, and the opportunities for spiritual growth. As KWU, we celebrate the freedom and dignity of each person as a child of God. KWU’s Campus Ministry mission is to witness to presence Jesus Christ in the world, and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Dean of the Chapel/Director of Retention, Rev. Dr. John Blackwell and Rev. Mike Rose, University Chaplain and Pastor of Univeristy United Methodist Church, oversee all campus ministry.

Dr. Blackwell’s office is located in Peter’s Science Hall, email address is jblackwell@kwu.edu, and his telephone extension is TBA.

Rev. Mike’s office is located on the first floor of UUMC and he may be contacted by calling 785-825-9505 or by emailing pastor@kwu.edu.

KWU actively seeks to cultivate both student participation and leadership. Our ministries are specifically designed to meet student’s needs for spiritual growth. Programs, activities and worship experiences are open to all students, faculty and staff. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Dr. Blackwell is also a member of KWU’s Religion and Philosophy Department and works closely with this department. Please click here for information about KWU’s Religion and Philosophy Department.

Chapel – The Calling

KWU’s student chapel service is called The Calling. This is a student – centered service that takes place each Tuesday evening. The time is 7 p.m., and the place is University United Methodist Church (across the street from KWU). The Calling consists of great music, inspiring preaching, sharing joys and concerns, and a time for prayer.

Theophiles

It means “lovers of God.” It also means that God is love. And for KWU, Theophiles is the name of our student fellowship group that meets each Tuesday evening, immediately following The Calling. The Dean of the Chapel leads the gathering, a time for fellowship, reflection, and Christian support.
