History Major Core Requirements - 42 Credit Hours

The student must complete all of the following:

HIST 105 World Civilizations I -- 3 Credit Hours
HIST 106 World Civilizations II -- 3 Credit Hours
HIST 220 American History I -- 3 Credit Hours
HIST 221 American History II -- 3 Credit Hours
HIST 280 Research Methods in History -- 3 Credit Hours
HIST 460 Internship -- 1 Credit Hour
HIST 499 Senior Thesis -- 3 Credit Hours
History electives -- 15 Credit Hours
Foreign Language -- 2 semesters of a foreign language

The following non-history courses can be substituted as electives:
MATH 300 History of Math -- 3 Credit Hours
POLI 320 Political History -- 3 Credit Hours
PSYC 410 History of Psychology -- 3 Credit Hours
REPH 306 Survey of Church History -- 3 Credit Hours



Secondary Education Teacher Certification Requirements - 39 Credit Hours

Students must complete the Liberal Studies requirements for Teacher Education Students, the Secondary Education Minor requirements, and the following additional courses:

History Minor Requirements - 18 Credit Hours

The student seeking a History Minor must complete a minimum of 18 Credit Hours of history.



Pre-Law

The best preparation for legal training, according to the American Bar Association, is "taking a broad range of difficult courses from demanding instructors" (http://www.abanet.org/legaled/prelaw/prep.html). The History Department prides itself on challenging students and would be a good choice for those considering a legal career.


Minor in Political Science - 18 Credit Hours

The political science minor provides a dynamic course of study that can enhance students preparation for employment in fields of law and law enforcement, business, sociology, and public service. This minor explores the relationship between politics in theory and politics in action. Students have the opportunity (not required) to practice what is learned through participation in a variety of campus activities, committees, and organizations.

This minor is offered as a cooperative learning experience from the Behavioral Science and History Departments at Kansas Wesleyan University.

The student must complete all of the following:
