What sets KWU Math apart?
The same equation can be used to solve problems in economics as well as theoretical physics, making an often overlooked connection between diverse areas. At KWU, mathematics majors are primed to succeed in any number of occupations through both high-quality classroom instruction and many math-related projects. These projects range from individual research to numerous activities in the mathematics and physics club.
A distinctive of the KWU mathematics program is MATH 499, a regular classroom course in mathematics research required for mathematics majors and open to mathematics education majors. Unlike research-oriented offerings at many other schools, this course is a full classroom experience. Students in this course receive invaluable instruction in mathematical exposition (how to write mathematics), the foundations of mathematics, and the research process; not to mention hands-on practice at teaching many of the lessons. The course culminates in a semester-long research project on a mathematics-related topic of each student's choice, with the possibility to publish the results.
In addition to the exciting opportunities mentioned above, mathematics majors are intensively trained in critical thinking, giving them advantageous preparation to excel in careers such as:
- Medicine
- Law
- Biostatistics
- Bioinformatics
- Actuarial science
- Many others.
