Douglas Beyer is currently a full-time member of the Salina Symphony, a former
member of the Wichita Grand Opera Orchestra, and adjunct instructor at both Kansas
Wesleyan University and Tabor College. Before relocating to Salina, KS, Mr. Beyer was
Director of Strings at Garden City Community College (GCCC) for three years, where he
taught all private string lessons and rehearsed the String Ensembles. Additionally he
was Director of the Southwest Kansas Music Academy, an organization that provided
music instruction for all instruments, skill levels, and ages. Prior to his appointment to
GCCC, Mr. Beyer was completing his Master Degree and Graduate Performance
Certificate at UTA, as well as serving as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the String
Area. As a free-lance musician while attending school, Mr. Beyer has played with
numerous area orchestras throughout the state of Texas and has performed in many
musicals and operas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and San Antonio areas. During his tenure
at Garden City Community College he was Concertmaster of the Garden City
Symphony, Associate Concertmaster of the Hays Symphony for two years, and
performed regularly with the Salina Symphony. Mr. Beyer has conducted master
classes and performed recitals throughout the state of Kansas. He is a past member of
the Board of the Garden City Civic Choral Union and Symphony, and past member of
the Executive Board of the Kansas Chapter of the American String Teachers
Association. As a private instructor in high demand, Mr. Beyer maintains a private studio
of 25 to 30 students of all ages and interests, many of whom have successfully
performed at the state level in Solo and Ensemble, achieved membership in the Kansas
State Festival Orchestra, and received scholarships from Colleges and Universities both
within the state and across the country.
