Jim VanEmburgh is a New Jersey native who came to Salina in 1967 to pursue a degree at Kansas Wesleyan University. He graduated in 1971 with a bachelors degree in business administration. "The education I got at Kansas Wesleyan was the starting point for my career in banking," he said. "There were a lot of great instructors there and I learned from them how to learn." Jim also met his wife, Mary, while at Kansas Wesleyan and says "that was a turning point in my life."
Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army following graduation, and later took a job as a credit analyst for the Bank of New Jersey. He worked eight years for the Bank of New Jersey before he and Mary returned to Salina in 1980 to raise their children.
Jim is currently the Executive Vice President/Chief Credit Officer for Sunflower Bank in Salina, Kansas. "I have lived here in Salina now over half of my life and it is because of my relationship with Kansas Wesleyan University. I try to stay involved at Kansas Wesleyan because it is important to me."
