How to Apply For Financial Assistance

In order to maximize your financial assistance opportunities for 2012-13 and expedite the process, please complete the following steps below:

1. Electronically file the student and parent federal income tax returns with the IRS as soon as possible (if tax returns will be filed for 2011).
2. Two weeks after filing taxes electronically (four to six weeks for income tax returns filed in paper form), download income information from IRS directly into the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  This should be completed before March 15^th if possible.  Electronic signatures using PIN numbers for student and/or parent are required.
3. If your income information is not available to download from IRS, you may enter the information from completed income tax returns.  However, that may require the submission of additional documents for verification and delay processing.

Don’t estimate income information using the “Will File” option unless you or your parents are unable to complete tax returns by the deadline of March 15^th.  If you are unable to complete federal tax returns before March 15, please contact the Enrollment and Financial Services office.

Apply for admission to KWU.  Financial Assistance requires acceptance for admission before funds can be allocated.  The priority deadline is March 15 preceding enrollment.  All financial assistance must be applied for and finalized by the end of registration week.  All funds are credited to the student’s account and applied to tuition, fees, room, board, and other miscellaneous charges.
