“The World as Family: Ethics and Values in a World
of Conflict” will be the topic of a Kansas Wesleyan
University Exchange presentation on February 1. The presentation,
by former Salinan Sam Evans, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. February
1 in 201 Peters Science Hall, and is open to the public at
no charge.
Evans is director of the YMCA of the USA-Movement Advancement
and a member of the Y-USA Executive Team. He provides overall
strategic leadership and management to the
organization’s
marketing/communications, international, government relations
and policy departments, as well as to the Jerusalem International
YMCA. Evans has served as chair of the National Board of YMCAs,
as well as several National Board committees, including the
International Committee. He served the World Alliance of YMCAs
in a number of volunteer positions including six years on
its Executive Committee. In 1993, the YMCA of the USA National
Board honored him with the National Treasure Award for his
volunteer achievements.
From 1994 to 2002, Evans also served as a member of the executive
committee of InterAction, a coalition of more than 160 private
volunteer organizations working in international development,
refugee assistance, disaster relief, and the education of
Americans about the developing world.
Before heading Y-USA’s International Division, he was
a partner in the Evans Grain Company for 25 years, and served
on the boards of several prominent Kansas banks and businesses.
Evans attended the University of Kansas, received a Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration degree. He also is a
Certified Senior YMCA Director.
