SALINA,
Kansas – A professor known for her excellence in teaching,
use of technology, and ability to take on diverse assignments
is the recipient of the 2004 Exemplary Teacher Award from
Kansas Wesleyan University.
Martha
Robertson, Assistant Professor of English and ESL, received
the award during the opening convocation August 23 in the
University United Methodist Church.
A
faculty member who nominated Robertson noted her excellence
in teaching.
“Her
student evaluations are consistently high. Her classes are
well-enrolled: when several sections of a course are available,
hers fill rapidly, partly because she has a reputation of
being very student-friendly,” Robertson’s nominator
wrote. “I have never heard Martha raise her voice in
anger, but have often experienced her warm smile and have
been encouraged by her optimistic spirit. Whether working
with one student or with a large class, she demonstrates patience,
knowledge, and creativity.”
Robertson
also was praised for her use of technology in the classroom
and for her ability to teach in several different departments.
Additionally, she was commended for her activity within her
profession and her service to the university and the community.
Robertson
joined the KWU faculty in 2000.
