The Gallery on the campus of
Kansas Wesleyan University is hosting the annual juried art
show sponsored by the 6th District General Federation of Women's
Club. The show, which opened today, will run through February
25.
Thirteen schools from central and northwest
Kansas are participating in this year's event. More than 400
works were submitted. Juror and KWU Art Department Chair Brad
Anderson selected 72 pieces for the show.
“There were many fine works submitted
for the show and if space allowed I could have easily included
another 50 pieces,” Anderson said.
There is a wide variety of media in the
exhibit, including drawing, painting, photography, computer
graphics, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media. The subject
matter varies from traditional landscape and architectural
drawing to post modern integration of image and text using
mixed media.
“The content of work at this level
is often challenging,” Anderson said. “The emotions
of students this age runs high and many use art as an outlet
to express themselves or find release.”
Schools included in this year's exhibit
are:
Colby High School
Ell-Saline High School
Hill City High School
Lakewood Middle School (Salina)
Minneapolis Junior/Senior High School
Norton High School
Phillipsburg High School
Plainville High School

Two brown
bag lunch gallery talks will be held in conjunction
with this exhibition: noon-1 p.m. Tuesday (February 8) and
noon-1 p.m. February 22. Students from Ell-Saline will be
at the gallery talk on Tuesday and Lakewood Middle School
art students plan to attend the talk on February 22. Representatives
from the local Federated Women's Clubs also will be attending
both events. Anderson will facilitate the open discussion.
Drinks and a light dessert will be provided. There is no charge
for the discussion and groups of six or more are encouraged
to call in advance to let the gallery know they are coming.
