Kansas Wesleyan University is the recipient of a $1.2 million
challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of
Tulsa, Oklahoma, university officials announced today. It
is the largest grant in university history. The challenge
grant will be used to help acquire funding for the University’s
proposed new $6 million Student Activities Center.
“Our goal has been to secure at least half of the funds
for the project prior to the public launch,” Kansas
Wesleyan University President Philip P. Kerstetter said. “We
have achieved that goal, and the receipt of this Mabee grant
now will help us realize our overall campaign goal in a much
more timely manner. The generosity of the Mabee Foundation
is a tremendous boost to our fund-raising efforts for the
new student activities center.”
A launch of the public portion of the fund-raising campaign
for the new 50,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for February
18 on the Kansas Wesleyan campus. Kansas Wesleyan’s
student activities center project will be funded entirely
through private donations.
Founded in 1886, Kansas Wesleyan University
is a values-centered, faith-based institution of higher education
offering programs in the arts, sciences, and professional
studies. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church
and located in Salina, Kansas.
