Because of a scheduling conflict, the
date of the April Skywatch presentation at Kansas Wesleyan
University has been changed to Saturday (April 16).
Kansas Wesleyan alumna Stefanie Milam,
a doctoral student in astrochemistry at the University of
Arizona, was scheduled to be the Skywatch speaker on Friday.
The presentation has been changed, however, because Milam
has been named the recipient of an Achievement Rewards for
College Scientists (ARCS) award from the Phoenix, Arizona,
chapter of the ARCS Foundation. This prestigious award, which
provides a $6,000 renewable scholarship to the recipient,
will be presented to Milam on Friday in Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix chapter’s
website, the ARCS Foundation is a national organization dedicated
to providing scholarship support to academically talented
students majoring in the fields of natural science, medicine,
and engineering. To qualify for an ARCS scholarship a student
must have a high scholastic record, proven ability in a scientific
field, and be a citizen of the United States.
Milam’s Skywatch presentation at
Kansas Wesleyan is now scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday
in 229 Peters Science Hall, with some time also spent in the
university’s observatory. The event is open to the public
at no charge.
