KWU Debate and Forensics squad brings home
a number of first-place awards

Kansas Wesleyan University’s Debate and Forensics squad had a successful outing at the West Texas A&M University tournament on November 20-22, 2009, including two first-place sweepstakes awards.

In Parliamentary Debate, the team of John Mikolajcik, Derby, and Meriah Forbes, Hutchinson, placed first.   Micah Moore, Salina, and  Andrew Moffitt, Chanute,  tied for  fourth place with Kiefer Storrer, Osage City, and Travis Godfrey, Osborne. 

In Swing Part One Individual Events, Forbes placed first in Prose Interpretation, first in Communications Analysis, and third in Dramatic Interpretation.  Mikolajcik placed first in Program of Oral Interpretation, second in Persuasion, third in Communications Analysis, fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking, and fifth in Impromptu Speaking.  Moore placed third in After Diner Speaking, and fourth in Dramatic Interpretation.  Storrer placed second in After Dinner Speaking.  Moffitt placed first in Informative Speaking, third in Program of Oral Interpretation, and fourth in Impromptu Speaking.  Godfrey placed fourth in Program of Oral Interpretation and fifth in After Dinner Speaking.  Amber Brown, Abilene, placed fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation.  Kansas Wesleyan also had four teams in Duo Interpretation and they all placed.  The team of Godfrey and Storrer placed second.  The team of Moore and Storrer placed third.  The team of Forbes and Brown placed fourth.  The team of Moore and Godfrey placed fifth .

Kansas Wesleyan also placed first in the school sweepstakes competition for Part One Individual Events. 

In Swing Part Two Individual Events, Forbes placed first in Communications Analysis and placed first in Prose Interpretation.  Mikolajcik placed second in Persuasion, third in Communications Analysis, fourth in Program of Oral Interpretation, and fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking.  Moore placed second in After Dinner Speaking.   Godfrey placed fourth in After Dinner speaking and sixth in Program of Oral Interpretation.  Moffitt placed fifth in Informative Speaking and fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation. Storrer placed third in After Dinner Speaking.  Charles McMichael, Sterling, placed sixth in After Dinner Speaking.   Brown placed seventh in Program of Oral Interpretation. Kansas Wesleyan also had four Duo Interpretation teams and they all placed.  The team of Forbes and Brown placed second .  The team of Moore and Storrer placed third. The team of Godfrey and Storrer placed fourth .  The team of Moore and Godfrey placed fifth . 

Kansas Wesleyan placed first in the school sweepstakes competition for Part 2 Individual Events. 

Other colleges and universities competing included Amarillo College, Blinn College, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, the University of Texas, the University of Texas at El Paso, University of Oklahoma, University of the Southwest, University of Texas at Permian Basin, and West Texas A&M University.
