Lietaer |
He will meet with state and local
leaders, as well as the general public. His opening public
appearance will be a lecture Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Peters
Science Hall, Room 201, at Kansas Wesleyan University. A follow-up
session will allow further discussion and interaction from
9-12 a.m. Saturday morning at The Gallery, Sams Hall of Fine
Arts at KWU.
Lietaer will also speak about
the larger implications of his theories in another presentation
at Salina’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship 10:15
Sunday morning service, at 901 Beatrice.
Lietaer has been manager of a
successful international money fund, central banker at the
Bank of Belgium, and developed the convergence mechanism that
led to the Euro currency. He argues that the nature of money
itself lies at the heart of the difficulties the world now
faces. He points out the waning of the U.S. dollar’s
supremacy as a world standard because of rising competition
from other currencies. He goes beyond that focus to examine
local citizens’ and communities’ ability to improve
their own circumstances. To achieve that goal, Lietaer advocates
establishing complementary currencies and economic resiliency
through new local, state, and national policies.
Upon completing his MBA thesis,
Lietaer was selected by TIME magazine as one of the top U.S.
business school graduates. In addition to his work on the
Euro, he has over 30 years experience as an advisor to European
institutions, Latin American governments, and major multi-national
corporations. A prolific writer and thinker, he has authored
numerous articles and more than twelve books. These include
The Future of Money (Random House, London), now published
in 15 languages, and most recently Access to Human Wealth:
New Money for a New World (Citerra Press) with co-author Stephen
Belgin.
