Kansas Wesleyan University and Kansas State Polytechnic have partnered together with the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, Rocking M Media and Salina-area businesses to help promote pride in both KWU and K-State Polytechnic with the Purple Friday promotion.

The promotion officially launches on Friday, Dec. 15, with no set end date.

“Kansas Wesleyan University and K-State Polytechnic are exceptional colleges that produce talented graduates. In addition to providing excellent educational and entertainment opportunities, both colleges provide much needed skilled labor for Salina’s workforce,” said Don Weiser, President of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. “Purple Friday is a great way to promote both institutions.”

Purple Friday has been a long-standing tradition on both college campuses, where students, faculty and staff wear purple on Friday to show their support.

“Salina provides so many benefits to our students, faculty, staff and alumni. Plus, we believe our institution is integral to this community,” said Matt Thompson, President of Kansas Wesleyan. “I’m so pleased that we can work together on this promotion to build awareness about the partnerships between the community and our universities. Salina is a special place and the Salina Purple Friday program illustrates it.”

“Community members have supported K-State for many years, and we are so excited that local businesses are recognizing the value of higher education and the contributions our graduates make to the Salina economy,” said Verna Fitzsimmons, CEO and Dean of Kansas State Polytechnic. “We are fortunate to have a great relationship with Kansas Wesleyan University to launch the Purple Friday program.”

Local Salina businesses that are part of the Purple Friday promotion will have specials available to guests wearing either purple, Kansas Wesleyan, or Kansas State apparel.

Great Clips, 1661 S. Ohio, is offering a $2 off deal to guests that come in on Purple Friday.

“Great Clips proudly supports KWU and KSU and we look forward to helping build support for these great universities,” said Christina Buller of Great Clips. “Purple Friday is a WIN-WIN opportunity as businesses can show support for our community and our customers can proudly wear purple to support the universities and receive great discounts from their favorite businesses. We look forward to watching Purple Friday grow as we support our universities.”

Businesses that are interested in being a part of Purple Friday can learn more, and register on the Purple Friday website.
