Host Family Program
KWU’s Host Family Program is an important part of the work to integrate students in the Coyote Pack, and into the greater Salina community in general. The program is based around community, support and engagement.
Community
- Helps students feel more connected to the local community.
- Encourages participation in local events, traditions and everyday life.
- Host families may offer recommendations regarding things like specialized services.
Support
- Provides students with a “home away from home” environment.
- Especially helpful during holiday breaks and long periods away from home.
- Offers emotional and social support, which can ease homesickness, doubt or other personal challenges.
Engagement
Host families are encouraged to engage with their students in a variety of ways including:
- Attending local games, performances or other special KWU events.
- Providing occasional home-cooked or favorite local restaurant meal.
- Coordinating activities like game nights, pumpkin carving, cookie decorating or favorite local activities.
