Academic Departments at Kansas Wesleyan University

Academics at Kansas Wesleyan University is organized into six divisions and 18 departments. It is through KWU’s academic departments that we offer exciting and innovating undergraduate majors and pre-professional programs and our master of business administration degree—plus countless classes, which will fuel your passion for learning! Browse the department links below or to the right to find the program that will inspire you to realize your full potential.

Art and Design

Earn a degree in the Art major, with concentrations in Studio Art (2D & 3D)Photography, 3D Printing & ModelingArt Administration and Art Therapy, or in the Design major, with concentrations in Graphic Design and Web Design.

Behavioral Science and Human Resources

The department will expose you to majors that include Psychology, Psychological Services and Sociology, as well as a minor in Political Science.

Biology

Study life science with a major in Biology, Biomedical Chemistry or Biology Education (6-12). Check out our new Ecospheric Studies and Community Resilience degree!

Business and Accounting

We offer undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business Management and Marketing, as well as the online and on-campus graduate M.B.A. program (available fully online).

Center for Public Policy and Safety

The Center houses the academic departments of Criminal Justice and Emergency Management, with both degrees available fully online, plus the A.A. in Public Safety and the minor in Public Policy.

Chemistry

Choose from a major in Chemistry, Biomedical Chemistry or Chemistry Education.

Communication Studies | Theatre Arts

You’ll find degree programs in Communications, Public Relations, Speech, Speech and Theatre Education (6-12)Theatre and Music Theatre.

Computer Studies

Offering strong hands-on preparation in technology, department delivers majors in Forensic Computing, Network Management and System Administration and Software Engineering and Information Management.

English

You have the choice of two majors: English, with a Writing Emphasis concentration available, and English Education (6-12).

History

This department offers the choice of two bachelor degree majors in History and History Education (6-12) as well as minors in Political Science. and Social Studies Interdisciplinary.

Interdisciplinary Studies

The program allows you to create your own major based on your passions and career goals.

Mathematics and Physics

You’ll find majors in Mathematics and Mathematics Education (6-12), as well the Physics major, with concentrations in Computational Physics, Environmental Physics, Material Physics and Traditional Physics, and Physics Education (6–12). There is also a dual degree opportunity in Engineering 3+2 (in conjunction with Washington University in St. Louis)

Music | Music Education

Train your mind, ears and hands while majoring in Music General, Music Education (PreK-12), Music Performance or Music Theatre.

Nursing and Health Science

Pursue a bachelor of science degree in Nursing or turn your RN into a BSN. Prepare yourself to help others with a degree in Health Science. Pre-professional programs include Pre-Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy.

Pre-Professional Programs

KWU students who pursue Pre-Professional studies have had great success gaining admission to professional schools all over the country. KWU offers Pre-professional Programs in the following areas: Pre-DentistryPre-LawPre-MedicalPre-OptometryPre-Podiatry, Pre-Physical TherapyPre-Athletic Training and Pre-Theology.                                             

Religion and Philosophy

Experience the contemplative majors of Religion and Philosophy, with Philosophy concentrations in Humanities and Science. Check out our Christian Ministry major and the 3+2 dual degree partnership with Saint Paul School of Theology!

Sport and Exercise Science

You can choose from majors in Exercise SciencePhysical Education (PreK-12) and Sports Management.

Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education at KWU will prepare you to thrive as a teacher of elementary, secondary and special education students.
