English
Pave your own career path with the versatility of a KWU English degree.
The English major at Kansas Wesleyan University develops students’ abilities in critical reading, analytical thinking, effective writing, and clear communication through the study of literature, language, rhetoric, and writing. Students engage with diverse literary traditions, historical and contemporary texts, and a variety of writing practices while developing skills valued in graduate study and a wide range of professions.
The major offers two pathways: a traditional literature-focused curriculum and a writing emphasis designed for students interested in creative, professional, digital, or applied writing. Both pathways encourage intellectual curiosity, cultural awareness, and thoughtful engagement with language and storytelling across multiple contexts.
Graduates of the English program are prepared for careers and advanced study in fields such as education, publishing, media, communications, law, public relations, business, nonprofit work, and other professions that value strong communication, research, and critical thinking skills.
