Sport and Exercise Science Department Mission Statement
The Department of Sport and Exercise Science is committed to educate, mentor, and guide students, faculty, and the community in the development of personal growth, skill acquisition, and lifelong wellness.
The Department of Sport and Exercise Science (SPES) provides a “hands-on” approach to prepare graduates for positions in professional and university athletic programs, community sports organizations, private and public fitness, recreation programs, as well as health and physical education.
With degrees available in Exercise Science (with Specializations), Health Science (with Pre-Professional Programs), Physical Education (PreK-12), and Sports Management, students are able to complete their education with authentic experience within the university and community allowing for a realistic experience to education.
In addition to the pre-professional programs, cooperative programs, and graduate school preparation, the department also offers a service program for the liberal studies requirement.

- Exercise Science - with Specializations in: Fitness & Wellness, Personal Training
- Health Science - - pre-professional programs in: Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Physical Therapy
- Physical Education (PreK-12)
- Sports Management

The faculty within the Sport and Exercise Science Department are geared toward not only excellence within the classroom, but a meaningful experience to ensure students within the program gain genuine job experience through means of:
- Student Teaching
*As of August 2014, the university has voluntarily withdrawn its Athletic Training program from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
