Kansas Wesleyan University student Darren Woodson, ’16, a Mathematics and Engineering Physics dual major, with a Computer Science minor, from Bentley, KS, was accepted to a summer REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He will be a paid intern, through a stipend, performing astronomical research and working with high level telescopes. REUs in the sciences are funded nationwide by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Cole Loewer, ’17, a Computer Science and Computer Information Systems dual major from Burden, KS, was accepted to a summer Smart Spaces REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
“Dr. (Dave) Kraemer is the one who told me about the REUs,” said Loewer, who then found information about this REU on the nfs.gov website. “What drew me to it was the choice of topics, including augmented reality and embedded devices.”

Kansas Wesleyan University student Laura Nivens, ’17, a Computer Information Systems major from Junction City, KS, was accepted to a summer REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, AR. Nivens will participate in research in the field of Cybersecurity, specifically working on enhancing the Android security model for protecting the operating system and data in high-tech devices.

Kansas Wesleyan University student Kenny Diaz, ’16, of Hurst, TX, has been awarded a rare summer management position with the Texas Rangers Organization. Diaz said this internship did not come to him easily, as he was up against more than 1,000 applicants for the position. He has been assigned to the Double-A professional baseball Frisco RoughRiders, in Frisco, TX, as Director of Baseball Operations.

Kansas Wesleyan University student Ryan Thies, ’17, of Phoenix, AZ, found an internship opportunity in Palm Springs, CA, broadcasting most of the summer baseball games for the Palm Springs Power, a collegiate summer baseball team that plays in the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL). The league hosts NCAA Division I talent for the entire summer.

Taylor Klover, of Hiawatha, KS, a Graphic Design major who graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with her Bachelor of Arts degree on May 9, 2015, has been accepted into graduate school at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Graphic Design. There, she has received a scholarship and a Graduate Teaching Assistantship position. She teach two classes per semester in addition to her full-time studies.
